Every year, we celebrate the 100th day of school. In the past several years, our youngest students have dressed as 100-year-olds to mark the day. This year, thanks to a suggestion by Joey Ann Delgado, one of our First Grade teachers, we celebrated that only 80 days of school remain. And what better way to do that than with a throwback to the 80's! Students and staff dressed in 1980's style and danced like it was 1980. Be brave and beware. You're going to see a lot of big hair and glow in the dark clothing. Brace yourselves! And you thought Miami Vice was gone forever. Think again. :)

St. Raymond Elementary School sponsored our second annual dress down for a cause in honor of Moebius Syndrome Awareness Day oN Friday, January 24. Luis Velazquez Jr., a 3rd Grade student at St. Raymond, was born with Moebius Syndrome, a rare neurological condition that affects the cranial nerves that control facial muscles. Children with Moebius Syndrome cannot smile or frown.
“As an expression of our solidarity,” said our principal Eugene Scanlon, “the St. Raymond Elementary School family is celebrating and supporting Luis Velazquez Jr. and all those with Moebius Syndrome by wearing something purple and raising funds for the Moebius Foundation on Friday. “ Our school was a sea of purple last Friday. We raised $1,212 for the Moebius Foundation.
Our Kindergarten East students show their support via purple clothing in the collage below.

Santa Claus visited our early childhood students this morning, Friday, December 6, on the feast of St. Nicholas. Santa was joined by his very helpful elves, who always know the right thing to do. Santa trained them well! Below are photos of Santa's visit.
The St. Raymond Elementary School community came together on Thursday, November 7, 2024 to raise money with our annual Veterans Day Dress Down for a Cause. Students and staff raised $1,701 that was donated to United for the Troops, an organization headquartered in Mahopac, New York that creates and sends care packages to our troops overseas.

In addition to funds raised, we collected 473 cards (most of them made in school by our students) that will be included in holiday packages sent to service men and women overseas.
Thank you to all our students and staff who participated.

Yesterday, on Election Day, civics lessons related to voting, were featured in some of our classes.
In Kindgarten East, teacher Janice Villamarin explained Election Day and what is involved in the the election process. Mrs. Villamarin gave her students a ballot for voting and set up a ballot box. Kindergarten East had a choice between two "candidates" -- popcorn and potato chips. Students circled their preference on the ballot and deposited them in the ballot box. When voting was completed, they counted the ballots together. Popcorn was the winner! It received 10 votes vs. 8 votes for chips.

Our Art teacher Mrs. Adderley, worked with our students to create badges that said "Future Voter."
