Fall is in the air in Kindergarten East! Substitute teacher Mrs. Casale taught her students to make colorful apples cutouts, which they decorated. Below, the students worked on their creations and then showed their results. Good job, K East!
On Wednesday, July 10, the Penn Station Access (PSA) project team, headed
by Molly Hollister, visited Summer Camp to talk about trains to our UPK through Grade 2 students and to give our Grades 3 through 7 students a lesson in STEM. PSA project team members are involved with a public works project for New York City’s Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA). The MTA is in the process of building four new train stations in the Bronx, including one in Parkchester, which is slated for completion by 2027.
Our youngest summer campers designed train cars. The Penn Station Access Team gave campers in Grades 3 through 7 a STEM lesson, teaching them how bridges are built and how to calculate how much weight a particular bridge can withstand.
“The Penn Station Access team brought a very valuable resource to our community and to our Summer Camp,” said Summer Camp Director Christopher D’Armiento (aka Mr. D). “The creative activities they offered gave our campers a change to explore their creative side and think outside the box. It was truly inspiring to see our students embrace the activities and come up with innovative solutions. We are so grateful for the Penn Station Access team’s visit and look forward to new opportunities with them in the fall.”

Congratulations to our Youth Choir! Under the direction of Patrick Connolly, our Choir Director, St. Raymond's Youth Choir again performed at the annual Inner City Scholarship Fund Dinner in Manhattan on Tuesday, April 30. Two of our students performed a solo. Jeremy Barefield of Class 6-305 sang Singin' in the Rain and Sherline Pichardo Cabrera of Class 4-208 sang You Are My Sunshine. Mr. Connolly said, " I'm so proud of our choir's performance. Our choir members didn't just take my direction. They went beyond that to infuse their performance with enthusiam, joy and passion. It was a great evening."

In recognition of Earth Day 2024, our Science teacher Mrs. Singh assigned a recycling project to our 8th Grade students. They were to create new objects made from three or more items. As you can see below, tin cans, plastic bottles, plastic spoons, paper and other items became the elements of their designs. Enjoy perusing their clever and unique recycled projects.

Thank you to our Art teacher, Mrs. Charmaine Griffiths Adderley, for her work with our students in Art class. Below are some examples of their work in a variety of styles.
The Persistence of Memory, also known as Melting Clocks, is one of artist Salvator Dali's most famous works. Below, our students created their own Melting Clocks.
The first three collages below are examples of elongated animals, also in the style of Salvador Dalí.
Yayoi Kusama is a contemporary well known Japanese artist famous for her polka dot patterns. Under Mrs. Adderley's direction, our students created the polka dot pumpkin collages below.
